What Motivates You?
September 19, 2007
Do you struggle to motivate yourself sometimes? I know the feeling. And I’ve been having one of those bad weeks too. Luckily, there’s plenty of wonderful people on the internet to give you encouragement when you need it.
Sean at Warrior Blog has been struggling to motivate himself recently. But instead of feeling sorry for himself, he is talking about it openly on his blog. And he also shares some great tips to deal with the problem in: 5 Steps To Get Motivated When You Are Feeling Down.
Now if your business was on the verge of bankruptcy, you would be feeling pretty unmotivated right? Well this is the situation that Ian Denny of Phoenix from the Ashes was in. But instead of letting it get him down, he fought until the very end and managed to stop the bankruptcy at the 11th hour.
Plus, now that the company is safe, he’s embarked on an intense marketing campaign. And you can read about it here. And amazingly, while Ian was doing all this, he also managed to help me with some marketing challenges and even wrote me a new sales letter. Thanks Ian.
I also read Carl’s posts regularly on TypeCarl. I like the way he shares his evolving views on business, and today he has a great motivational post for those who feel like giving up on their fledgling business:
Success Is Hard and That’s Beautiful.
The visitors to this blog and the encouraging comments also keep me going when I’m feeling down. So, I’d like to say a big thank you to all of you. And rest assured, I visit the great blogs of every single contributor on a regular basis.
What motivates you? Please share in the comments section, and please feel free to provide the links of any posts that have motivated you.

Got something to say?

Thanks for the mention Cath
We should all grow and become stronger in hard time and learn from it
Keep up the work!
take care,
Sean
Cath,
Thanks so muh for those words! Today, I’ve been feeling a bit down too – but that has reallty given me a boost!
I’m not normally in any way slushy, but today has been good. But because it was good, I’ve kind of felt a bit emotional.
Sounds weird, but IT (well the kind of IT we do) is not a slushy thing. We have to be a bit macho at times.
Today, I’ve been told (not a bait type of thing – but feel free to rescue me!) by Steve, my colleague, that I’m going to be replacing the down-pipe, toilet, and all sorts of other stuff because we have leaky loo!
Steve is my business partner, supa-moto (suicidal motorcycle racing), ball-room dance teacher, guy who builds 2-storey house in his back-garden (on his own) and wants to teach me a lesson in doing stuff he can do, but I can’t!
My uncle is a plumber – so I thought – he’s actually just a gas-person and doesn’t know lead pipes, iron down-flows and the like.
But Steve does! But he also knows how to drink 3 alco-pop vodkas through 3 straws at the same time, while simultanesouly laughing hysterically, with his biker-beard soaking up the over-spill.
The worrying thing is that me and Steve live on the same planet (not this universe).
So he has persuaded me that I can be “Mr Plumber”. I can make him tea, lug and lift etc.
We’re like chalk and cheese. I am “Mr Anti-DIY” and he is “Mr I can do anything”.
Shoud be fun!
But I could really do with having a phone number of a decent plumbing firm who can rescue us (in the likely event that I somehow manage to submerge a house in the output of a toilet!).
Thanks for the mention!
I’ve been having to think about motivation more and more these days since it is directly tied to if I’m going to eat in the future.
All I can say it’s like a wild beast that needs to be tamed. There is nothing like being on your own to make you learn about yourself. Motivation just differs from person to person.
Anyway, thanks for participating at my blog. It definitely helps to keep me going.
Hi Sean – you are welcome. I really loved your post.
Ian – I’m glad it gave you a boost. What you have achieved is nothing short of amazing. And I got my first job from your sales letter today – thank you!
Carl – you are welcome too. You write some great posts. And you are right, it is far easier to motivate yourself if you need to make money to put food on the table. I have had no other source of income for many years, and I think I would rather sell the clothes off my back than get a job!
