20 Ways To Achieve Business Success in 2008

January 1, 2008

Happy New Year and I hope you achieve all the business success you deserve in 2008.

If like me, you’re busy planning the year ahead right now, consider the following points:

1) Remember you have a life – your business is just part of that life.

2) Take your business seriously – even if you’re only running it part-time right now.

3) Surround yourself with enthusiastic people. You can train people in almost everything else.

4) Avoid negative people – they’ll drain your energy and enthusiasm.

5) Start a blog for your business and guest post on blogs like this one to attract traffic to it.

6) Don’t try to sell your products or services in every single post of your business blog.

7) Focus on profits, not total sales.

8) Don’t focus so much on profit that your standards of service suffer.

9) Spend less on unnecessary expenses like staff mobile phones and office furniture.

10) Spend more on effective marketing.

11) Make sure you optimise your blog or website effectively. Astrit shows you how in this post: Have You Picked Your Keywords?

12) Don’t over optimise your blog/site for the search engines. It has to appeal to your readers too.

13) Don’t lie, cheat or deliberately deceive anyone.

14) Refuse to deal with anyone who lies, cheats or deceives you.

15) Bring last years customers back. Marketing agressively to existing customers is the cheapest and fastest way to make more sales.

16) Sack bad customers who constantly complained for no reason, always paid late and made your life difficult.

17) Create new products or services that would appeal to existing customers.

18) Find new customers for your existing products and services.

19) Read books and biographies by experienced business owners and learn from them.

20) Don’t read business books that claim they will make you a millionaire in 12 months time.

    Catherine,

I love #3 and #4. Those are so true. Nothing can bring the morale of a business down faster than negative people.

Great posting! For the past few weeks, I have been doing a lot of reading on ways to form and profit from one’s business. I have also decided that the one thing I am lacking is to understand how to market yourself. I think that if I continue to educate myself, I will be well off. Couldn’t have said it better.
