Can You Write a $500 Prize Winning Quote?
March 30, 2008
Do you write quotes on your blog that are worthy of an Oscar? Would you like to win a $500 prize? I love quotes – they can inspire, motivate and some can even make you laugh.
So, beginning this week, I’m featuring a fab quotes of the week spot. Each weekend, my favourite quotes found on the Internet will be featured in a fab quotes post. And my favourite will stay on the main page of this blog for a whole week.
All quotes that I feature in the weekly post will also be added permanently to a special fab quotes section of this site.
Although I will be browsing the Internet and picking great quotes at random, you can increase your chances of having your favourite quote on your own site or blog picked by linking from it to this post. I’ll feature my favourite quotes in a post each weekend and my favourite out of those will win quote of the week.
Plus, my favourite quote of the year, out of each week’s posts will win a prize to the value of $500 (details to be given later), with additional prizes for runners up. So, your chances of winning are excellent – as there will be only 52 entries for the whole year.
The Rules
You can enter as many times as you want (with different quotes).
Each entry needs to link to this post, or one of the Quotes of the Week posts.
You will need to include a do follow tag so I can see your inbound link. If you’re not sure whether you have “do follow” installed on your blog, you can download a do follow plugin here: Do Follow
Good luck. I’m looking forward to reading some great quotes.
This week’s winning quote is by Akemi Gaines of Yes To Me
“When you know your purpose of your life, you see money as a means to an end, not the purpose by itself.”
More quotes I loved this week:
“The truth I want to tell. The connection I want to establish. The difference I want to make.”
Joanna Young of Confident Writing.
“In reality, you don’t have to go the extra mile to stand out. Just going the first mile is unusual. Actually, just leaving the starting gate is above average.”
Hunter Nuttall.
“Some businesses don’t have blogs and shouldn’t have blogs: oil companies, Blackwater, KBR, Halliburton, whatever. Evil = no blog for you, unless you just like putting a hate magnet on the interwebs.”
Michael Martine of Remarkablogger.
“I think branding flows, naturally, from vision and voice. My vision is to help other Internet writers get where they want to be. My voice works to accomplish my vision by sharing my own experiences with you, and interacting with you. The natural outcome of this is my brand.”
Bob Younce of Writing Journey.

Got something to say?

Great idea Cath, and some great quotes already. Thanks for including one of mine!

Thanks Joanna. I love quotes but I was finding that many of the ones on the quote sites are by mega famous people. And a lot of the time, non-famous people say far more interesting things.
Happy to be considered quote-worthy!
You know I love blogger quotes. Got a whole series of posts on them. No prize, however. $500? That’s a dang decent prize!

Can I say something about the box? Sorry, I couldn’t resist. I’ve never been much of a quote writer, but I’m looking forward to reading the quotes you find. Maybe I’ll even get lucky and come up with one you like.

Hi Michael. It’s a great quote. And so true – those evil companies should never have blogs.
I’m hoping to add all these quotes to a special page each week and hopefully other people will use the quotes in their blogs posts and give a link to the quoter.
I noticed you have a lot of quotes in your “overheard on the Internet” section. There’s some really good stuff there. I really like this Liz Strauss one: http://michaelmartine.com/2008/03/19/overheard-in-blogosphere-17/
Hi Debbie – if you want to write a quote about that imaginary box you can. Just because I don’t think it’s real – doesn’t mean you have to believe me.
I bet you can come up with a good quote. Many people write posts with great quotes in them and don’t even realise they’re doing it.
Hi Cath, I love that this will be a weekly feature. Good quotes are a wonderful source for inspiration, and your readers will be exposed to a bunch of other good blogs each week.

Well I was struggling with my nose stuck in work to think of blog topics.
This is a good one to think about (and hopefully do once a week!).
Here’s a freebie which can’t be entered:
“Enjoy picking your nose. For wisdom and creativity is born of the satisfaction that is gleaned from this liberating, albeit socially abhorrent act.”
Ian Denny’s last blog post..You Are The Best – So Why Don’t New Clients Beat Down Your Door?
Hi Sterling – Absolutely. So many bloggers – me included, use other people’s quotes in their post. I usually search online for the quote I’m looking for and link to the website where I found it.
But, it would be great if some of the quoters featured on here were quoted elsewhere for the brilliant things they’d said.
The hardest part is choosing a quote of the week. I really loved all this week’s quotes and it’s tough choosing just one to go on the homepage.
Hi Ian – interesting but gross. You’re only coming up with bad quotes because you’re devastated over Everton’s destroying defeat by Liverpool today.
I’d feel destroyed, but 1 – 0 isn’t exactly destroyed. I feel great pleasure that the awesome chasm between the 2 teams means they are worried by a team that had exponentialy less investment, yet is so close to their coat-tails that they are really sweating.
We’ve done them over in this department once before in the last 3 years, and we’ll do it again – despite the fact they have such an overwhelming financial advantage!
I pick my nose in their general direction!

Wow, thank you. I feel so honored to be the winning quote of the week.
This post is a very important one for me as it re-defines my blog as not just about entrepreneurship but also about the spiritual strength beneath the entrepreneurship.
Thank you again.

Thanks for the link, Catherine. I like the quotes of the week idea, and it should be really interesting to see what you find over the next year.
Is the $500 prize dinner with you? I mean, if Simon Cowell paid $100,000 for a shopping trip with Ivanka Trump…

Hi Catherine,
This is a fabulous idea. You’re always finding great quotes in your internet travels, so it will be wonderful to see them all in one place.
I like Hunter’s idea. Will you join the winner for dinner when you present the check/cash. Then it can be put on YouTube. Now that could be great exposure for your blog. You think?

Hi Akemi – you’re welcome. It’s a wonderful quote and the post is truly inspiring.
Hi Hunter – I did not about the Simon Cowell thing – that is a lot of cash! I’m not sure that anyone would enter to win dinner with me though. I’m a lot older than Ivanka! Mind u – she deserves the cash for having to put up with Simon for dinner.
Hi Barbara – Thanks. The YouTube thing sounds like a great idea. But it depends where the winner is located. Now, if someone like Joanna won it, I’d have no problem popping up to Edinburgh for dinner – but a trip across the pond might be a bit excessive.
