Fab Quotes Of The Week: Week 3
April 27, 2008
Loving what you do, no matter how great at it or how bad at it you are, is the sum of being yourself. James of Men With Pens.
Whoever said that money doesn’t buy happiness was either broke, or they were a miserable person who won the lottery and allowed the money to magnify their misery. Christine O’Kelly of Self Made Chick.
Persistence Is Having The Same Goal Over And Over. Seth Godin.
I’m launching an anti-crap campaign. I want you to say “NO” to buying crap. I can’t think of a better way to improve one’s wealth, health, and self than to kick the crap habit. Squawkfox.
As you fight your way through the next year, spare a thought for how the chaps in charge – the government – are feeling. Then find one of them to throw bricks at. Drayton Bird

Got something to say?

Damn… I said that? Written out just like that on its own, it looks very profound.
I’m all proud of myself now
Thanks!
Lol to James — when part of the post is quoted like this, it does look “different”. doesn’t it!? Tell me about it. . .
And we never really know which part of our writing actually touches the readers’ hearts. . .
Akemi – Yes to Me’s last blog post..Dodging The Many Forms Of Psychological Manipulation
Hi James – You’re welcome – it’s a great quote. I think it’s a lot easier to pick out other people’s great quotes than it is to pick out ones you’ve written.
Hi Akemi – that is so true and it’s another great reason for featuring them on here.
Hi Cath – it’s been awhile since I’ve been around. Sorry, had a newborn and things have been a little heck tick lately.
I love quotes, thanks for sharing with us some good ones. Here are two I like:
“The difference between a dream and a goal is a timeline.”
and
“Shoot for the moon and don’t worry if you miss because you’ll be among the stars.”

Hi Catherine,
Another set of great quotes. How do you find them all, and then remember to get them all written down?
I do love this series of yours. Thanks for sharing.
Barbara Swafford’s last blog post..Blogging – Year One – Lesson Nine
Hi John – Congratulations. I bet you’ve been kept busy. I like your new site header BTW. And thanks for sharing those quotes – I especially like the first one.
Hi Barbara – Thank you. Usually, I copy them into the draft post as soon as I see them. Trouble is, I’m so busy copying quotes that I forget to leave a comment on the particular blog. I do that if I’m doing a SU review too.
Cath Lawson’s last blog post..Fab Quotes Of The Week: Week 3
I love James’ quote too. Great collection here, Cath.
Though I have to say I don’t agree with Christine. I’ve seen both ends of the spectrum and I think happiness and money are not as related as people think. Saying money buys happiness infers the two are dependent upon one another and they’re not. Some famous and ridiculously wealthy people in history were neurotic and miserable, and I have seen much happiness in the world’s poorest countries.
I think the misery problem tends to come more with expectations and comparisons and is less about what you have. Some people like being miserable and others can see the joy in life wherever they look. Of course it is EASIER to be happy when you have enough money to meet your essential needs – that I would not dispute.

Kelly@SHE-POWER’s last blog post..What is the Music of Your Life?
@Cath – I’m glad you like the header. I’ve been hoping you liked it
@Kelly – I tend to agree with you. As I see it, it’s not the money itself we are after, it’s the benefits money gives us. For example, we want a nice car, a boat, nice house, to travel, etc. Money itself doesn’t provide these things, they are just a by-product of what you can do when you have money.
Your comment reminds me of a song by the band Garbage called “I’m only happy when it rains.” lol
There’s something to be said for living a simple life. People who live simple lives have less stress, less responsibilities, and can enjoy day-to-day life.

Hello Cath,
I just love great quotes, and you have found some excellent ones to boot. Keep them coming and I can print some out and put them on my wall.
John, you are so right about a simple life, yet we as human beings seem to like it (or should I say make it) complicated.
Regards.

I crave a mention with my quotes. But fully understand why they don’t warrant it. And I specifically don’t want to be conisdered for the grand prize.
Mainly because I’d hate to see any of my nonsense even be considered.
Anyway, this week’s entry is:
“Don’t run with scissors. Quality origami is always optimised while sitting down.”
Ian Denny’s last blog post..This Blogging Lark Is Hard – How Do You Cope When Other Stuff Gets In The Way?
Hi Ian – I like that one actually. And remember – this runs for a year. But to self nominate, you’ve got to include your quote in a blogpost and link to one of the weekly quotes posts.
Trouble is, I might pick something of yours that you think isn’t so great. It’s really hard to pick out the good bits of your own writing.
@ Kelly – I know what you mean. Christine was really skint at the time she was writing about, so any money at all would definitely have made her happier. When people just use money as a means to buy stuff, I doubt whether it makes them happy for too long.
@ Jeff – thank you. Printing them out is a good idea. It’s good to have motivational quotes where you can see them all the time.
Hi Catherine. Nice collection of quotes. Godin’s quote is a familiar message delivered in a way I’m not used to hearing…it was very effective for me.
Looks like Christine’s quote sparked a little debate here. My 2 cents is that there is nothing good or evil about money, but a lot of psychology wrapped around it. Having it won’t make you happy. But not having it will probably make you less happy. So why not make life easier by making some money?
Hi Sterling – Thanks – I like the way Seth worded that quote too.
I like your idea of actually making some money anyway. It certainly takes away a bit of stress if you can afford to pay your bills and put a roof over your head.
BTW – anyone who has too much money and feels miserable could cheer themselves up by building a school in Vietnam, as Tim Ferris did:

Interesting quotes.
I disagree with the second quote though.
Money DOES NOT buy happiness.
It makes live easier, but it sure doesn’t make you happy.
Hi Nicole – A few people disagreed on that one. I agree that money alone can never make you happy. But having enough to cover your basic living costs can take away a lot of misery.
