Home business ideas, drift in and out of the minds of the more experienced, like water seeping through a crack in a doorway. For many - especially those just contemplating starting a business at home, the opposite is the truth.

How many times have you heard the statement, “I’d love to start a home based business, if only I could come up with a good idea.” The sad truth is, most of these people will go through life waiting for the good idea that will never come. They’ve read all these articles that tell them you need to have a unique idea to set up in business - you need to invent something different. The fact is, this isn’t true at all.

Sure, it would be nice to invent the new amazon, or ebay, but you don’t have to come up with something completely different to start a home based business. There’s lots of ordinary businesses out there making money, and some are making a lot more money than you could imagine.

There’s several business you could start now, on a shoestring. What about carpet cleaning, oven cleaning, catering services, dog walking, personal training. The list goes on.

Now, I know what you’re probably thinking. Sure, you could start one of those businesses, but there’s so much competition out there. How could you possibly compete with all those home based carpet cleaners? All you need to do if find an edge - something to make you unique. You could provide a better quality of service, you could provide a faster service, you could offer lower prices. If you’re a woman, and most of your competitors are men, you may already have found your competitive edge, if you’re providing a service to homeowners - carpet cleaning for example. It is mostly women who tend to organise such things to be carried out in their homes, and they would most often feel more comfortable if a woman were carrying out the work.

So, now you realise that you don’t need to invent the next million dollar homepage, off you go to brainstorm. I bet you’ll have more business ideas than you can handle, within half an hour, and if you’re still struggling, you could always check out these great home based business books
