So You Want To Be A Problogger?
March 19, 2006
So you want to be a Problogger? Well, if you love writing and you’re persistent, your dream may be within your grasp, but don’t give up your day job just yet.
Darren Rowse, the original “Problogger” may make a six figure income from blogging now, but it hasn’t always been that way. In fact, Darren blogged for 2 and a half years, before he began working part-time, to enable him to spend more time blogging for money.
And other famous Probloggers may be making a small fortune from blogging now, but they didn’t achieve overnight success. In fact, most of them have been blogging for years.
Dooce, the mommy blogger makes an estimated $40,000 a month from problogging now, but she’s been blogging since 2001. In fact, according to one article, she was making less money than a part-time McDonalds fry cook when she’d been blogging for four years.
Steve Pavlina also makes huge amounts of cash as a Problogger and has also scored himself a book deal. But he wasn’t an overnight success. He was blogging for over a year before he began earning a decent living from his blog.
So it would be foolish to give up your day job just yet, no matter what all those “make money online blogging” blogs keep telling you. The truth is, most of those blogs earn very little.
But, if you’re willing to work hard and patient enough to blog for at least a couple of years, with no financial reward, your dream of becoming a Problogger could be within your reach.
Do choose a blog topic you’re passionate about and if you’re not used to writing on a daily basis, you’ll also want to brush up on your writing skills.
Also, if you want to be taken seriously, you’d be far better off getting your own domain name and hosting account, as opposed to starting a free blogger blog.
