Think you’ve found an amazing product to sell? I bet it’s rubbish
March 21, 2006
Hi, Thanks for visiting. Here's a free gift. It's an ebook to help you start your own viral marketing campaign and drive tons of traffic to your website or blog.
So you’ve found the most amazing product for your home based business to sell – blue googlepings. You love them, your mother loves them, the whole world will love them - they’re a great idea. You buy a thousand blue googlepings and you advertise them everywhere. You run ads in the local and national papers, you buy opt in mailing lists and mail 1000 letters, you set up a website to sell your googlepings.
After two weeks, you have spent a fortune, and you haven’t sold a single googleping. You pop down to your local shop to find more newspapers to place ads in, and you see an advertisement on the wall for pink googlepings. You look round the store, but you can’t find them. Eventually, you ask an assistant where the pink googlepings are, and he says, “Sorry, they’re sold out. We have some more coming in next week, but they’re all on back-order. People just can’t seem to get enough pink googlepings.
You rush home to search for pink googlepings on the Internet, and sure enough they’re selling out everywhere. By now, you’re so upset, you feel your head might explode. Why on earth didn’t anyone tell you that people wanted pink googlepings, not blue ones? You didn’t ask anyone, did you? Except for your mother, and she’d say anything to please you.
Many home based businesses make mistakes like this when they’re starting out, but this scenario is never going to happen to you, is it? Definitely not, because you are going to do your research, before you try to sell anything to anyone – especially blue googlepings. You’re going to find the customer first, and discover what they want.
Ok, so maybe your business doesn’t even have any customers yet, what do you do? Suppose you have a great idea for a product or service - ask around. Visit places where that product is selling, such as shops, or trade fairs. Speak to people and find out how popular it is. Suppose you’re selling a new golf club, that’s guaranteed to improve a golfers performance by 50%. Talk to regular golfers, and see if the product is something that would interest them.
If you’re selling a service, make calls to people who are already providing that service. Pretend you’re a customer, and see how quickly they can come out to you. If they’re all snowed under for the next couple of weeks, chances are you’re on to a winner.
Selling on the Internet is even easier. You can use this free tool to see how many people have searched particular words and phrases in the last month - http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/ This will give you an idea of how much demand there will be for the product you are considering selling. For instance if only fifteen people per month have searched your product, it may not be worthwhile selling it. Unless, that is, you’re selling a new range of the most sought after private jets; you have exclusive rights to sell them, and a huge profit margin.
If you already have a website, you can see what your existing customers want. Putting a forum on your site can work in some cases. Forums enable you to see what your customers want, through their discussions. However, you must be aware that statistically many people who visit such forums rarely look at the rest of the site, and they are also less likely to click on advertisements. So you would need to advertise the desired product in a prominent area of the forum. However, for most sites, a forum is not the best way to get customers. I prefer the next option.
Many hosting companies have a built in tool, which allows you to see which pages on your site are most popular. If the most popular page is, “How to find cheap fishing rodsâ€, it might be an idea to advertise cheap fishing rods on your site. However, if the most popular page is, “How to pick the best quality fishing rodâ€, it may be that your customers, are looking for a higher quality brand of rod, rather than the cheapest.
What’s the point, you might be thinking. Those visitors looking at those pages are going to go and buy their fishing rods somewhere else. They might not even return to my site. That’s true, but they will if you give them an incentive to return by getting them to sign up to an opt-in mailing list. Then, when you put additions on your site that may be interesting to visitors, you send them a newsletter, and persuade them to come back to your site, by telling them about your irresistible offers and information.
On one of my sites, I use two opt in mailing lists. The one on the home page has only a 1.2 percent opt in rate, which means that only 1.2 people in 100 visiting my site will sign up. The un-blockable pop up one has an 11.5% opt in rate, which means that 11.5 in every 100 visitors sign up to the list. Unfortunately, most services don’t offer un-blockable pop ups, which is a shame, as so many people have a pop up prevention on their browser, so an ordinary pop up wouldn’t work. I use Aweber, which is a brilliant service. It allows you to create as many opt in lists and newsletters as you want, so you can use it for several sites, if you wish. The great news is, the next 100 visitors to this site can take advantage of a special offer.

Multiple Streams of Income
March 20, 2006
Years ago, the best way to financial success was to concentrate on just one thing, whether it was a business, or career. Things have changed dramatically over the last few years, and it is no longer safe or wise to concentrate on one stream of income.
This is great news for home business owners as there’s so much information, ideas and advice on the internet now. With so much information available, starting a part-time home business, whilst still doing your regular day job is a synch, in comparison to what it was like a few years ago.
So, how do you go about getting multiple streams of income? Trying to set up several things at once, on your own would definitely lead to disaster. A better idea is to start one thing at a time. Once you have one stream of income set up and running well, you’re in a better position to set up another.
In his excellent book, multiple streams on income, Robert Allen suggests several ways to create streams of cash coming in with minimal effort.
Allen suggests setting up as many income streams as possible and outsourcing much of the work, rather than employing a lot of staff. This idea would probably suit most people’s comfort levels. Few small business owners have the desire to build huge empires. Allen’s ideas prevent burnout too, as once they are set up, he says each stream of income should only require about ten minutes input per day from the home business owner.
Robert Allen is also firmly against putting up a lot of money to set up a home based business. In fact, he proved, several years ago, that you don’t need money to make money. With only $100 dollars, he managed to purchase properties worth over $700,000 dollars, within only 72 hours.
Allen’s book is definitely worth reading, if you like the idea of creating multiple streams of income from home, using other people’s money, time and expertise. What’s more, he is going one step further for those who are truly convinced this way of working is for them. He is now creating success stories - helping ordinary people who want to build home based businesses. Obviously, he is only looking for seriously interested people.

Blog your way to success like Darren Rowse
March 19, 2006
Many of you want to start your home based business on the internet. There’s plenty of businesses you could start right now, with only a little capital, but there’s few you could start with no cash at all.You could always become a professional blogger like Darren Rowse. Whilst many people use blogs to supplement their income, or promote their business, a few make a living solely from blogging. Darren has about a dozen blogs, and makes a six figure income from them.
If you love writing, and you’re persistent, blogging could be the home based business idea you’ve been looking for. All you need is a computer with internet access, and a lot of patience and persistence.
You can get a free blog right here on www.blogger.com. If you want you’re own domain name, blogger have instructions on pointing your blog to your domain name. Don’t worry though, if you can’t afford a domain and hosting right now, you can always get those later. There’s several ways you can make money on your blog, and you can sign free for most of them. Don’t ever sign up to anything you have to pay to sell. Nobody should be charging you for advertising for them.
When you set up your blog, Blogger will give you the option to get an adsense account, and adsense is the first thing you should sign up for. Adsense is Google’s pay per click advertising programme, and you’ll get paid each time someone clicks on one of your Adsense ads.
If you’re thinking pay per click advertising can’t possibly make you enough to live on, think again. Jason Calacanis made a million dollars from Google Adsense alone, on his blog last year.
Now, if you don’t enjoy writing, there’s absolutely no point in blogging at all. It would be like training to be an Olympic Swimmer if you were scared of water. However, maybe you enjoy writing, but think you’d have trouble finding enough to write about. If this is the case, you need this book:
The Artists Way has helped thousands of professional and aspiring writers overcome writers block. Believe me, if you’re swaying towards blogging as your home based business idea, just persist with some of the exercises from the book, such as the popular “morning pages”, and you’ll never run out of things to write about.
If you’re serious about blogging for a living, or simply want to use a blog to promote your home-based business, one of the most comprehensive resources available is Rob Benwell’s “Blogging to the Bank”. To read more about “Blogging to the Bank.” Click Here!
Don’t be a Thinker
March 19, 2006
I’m not saying you shouldn’t think, on the contrary, you should, and will think all the time. As Napoleon Hill said, in Think and Grow Rich, thoughts become things. He was right - thoughts do become things - but only if you put those thoughts into actions. You’ve heard the old cliche, “knowledge is power”. It sounds great, but it’s not completely true. Knowledge can only become power if you use that knowledge. How many people have you heard say, “I’ve got a book in my head”. What’s the use of a book in one’s head, if nobody can read it. It might well be the next Pulitzer prize winner, but if it stays in the head, it’s really not much use.
Most people think and learn far more than they can remember, which isn’t a lot of use either. Try spending a couple of hours on Sunday doing nothing but thinking, then, the following weekend, try to remember what you thought about. If you can’t remember, it was a wasted couple of hours.
How many ideas have you had that seemed great at the time. If you’re like me, you’ve probably lost count, but I bet you can’t even remember a fraction of them now.
The point is, thoughts can become things - great things, if you do something with those thoughts. If you want to build a successful home based business, write down every good idea that comes into your head. It doesn’t matter if you never use that idea. Lots of ideas seem good at the time, but completely ridiculous after a little more thought, but if you can find one great idea in every hundred ideas you have, you’ll be on a fasttrack to building a great home based business in no time at all.
Keep a small notebook with you all the time, and jot those fleeting ideas down. Keep it by your bed - the best thoughts we often have are those we have upon wakening. Then think about those ideas some more, and put the best ones into practise.
To discover more about the amazing power of the mind, and how thoughts can really become things - great things, read the best book ever written on achieving financial success Think and Grow RichNeed a break from all these home based business thoughts?
