What To Do When Your Ideas Suck

April 30, 2006

Have you racked your brains forever and a day, trying to come up with home business ideas, only to come with ideas that suck at best, and nothing at all at worst? Are you beginning to worry that the idea compartment of your brain was secretly removed at birth? Read on, and soon you’ll be coming up with so many great home business ideas, your only problem will be deciding which one to choose for your home business.

Did you know, most ideas come up when you’re not trying to find them at all? The bad news is, that however good they seem at the time, you’ll probably forget them. So what can you do about it?

First, keep a small ideas notepad. Write down every single idea that comes into your head, however small or silly it seems. Reading through your ideas pad each week may inspire even better ideas, or turn a glimpse of an idea into something more substantial.

Keep the pad beside your bed in the evening. Some of the best ideas we get are upon wakening. You could even go one step further and write for ten minutes upon wakening on whatever comes into your head. The key is to write, without editing. Much of the stuff you write may sound like complete rubbish, but remember, no one but you is going to be reading it, and it may just lead you to that million dollar idea.

Pick ten words at random. If you find this a struggle, grab ten books, or magazines and pick words from the covers, or take a walk, and when you return, pick ten words of things you saw, felt, or heard on your walk.

Next, go to Overtures free keyword selector tool at: http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/

Type your first word into the selector. For example – say your word is “painting”. I typed in painting and got a huge list of results. Face painting had 11,389 searches. I clicked face painting to narrow it down further, and got many results, including the following, which tells me that there is a significant demand for face painting supplies and designs:

Face painting brush 7245, face painting design 1975, face painting idea 1435, face painting picture 680, face painting kit 658, kid face painting 607, free face painting design 418, simple face painting design 400, child face painting 391, face painting supply 391, clown face painting 325, face painting pattern 283, face free idea kid painting 283, kid face painting design, free face painting idea 251.

Try using Overture yourself for some searches, with the ten words you picked. As well as coming up with the next great home business idea, you’ll also discover what is in demand

Why Everyone Needs At Least One Crap Job

April 29, 2006

If you’ve just started out in your home business, you will already know how tough things can be. You’re probably doing everything yourself, and making very little money - if you’re making anything at all. So how do you keep going when things get tough?

When I’ve had enough, I just remind myself of the worst jobs I’ve ever done. It really works. Every time you’re having a tough time and feel like packing it all in - just think of that really awful job, or that obnoxious slave driving boss, and that dismal monthly paycheck.

Remind yourself that whenever things get bad, they’re not as bad as they were back then. If that doesn’t work, remember that if you give up, you could wind up back in a job just as bad. Persevere with your business start up, and not only will you have total control over your working life, but you’ll also make a lot of money.

Is Bad Writing Ruining Your Online Business?

April 27, 2006

To succeed in online business, good website content is essential. You’re probably aware that good content and writing skills go hand in hand, but what if you’ve never written a thing since school?

You could use free article directories to get most of your site content, but that puts you at risk of churning out duplicate content, and winding up in the Google sandbox.

Of course, you could pay freelance writers to write your content for you, but that could cost you a fortune, and most new internet businesses don’t have a fortune to spend.

The smart thing to do would be to improve your writing skills. Once you’ve learned the basics, a little writing practise each day will put you streets ahead of your competitors.

Daily writing will not only improve your writing skills, it will also encourage your mind to come up with more ideas than you have time to write about. That million dollar website idea, could be lurking in your brain already, just waiting to be discovered by your creative side.

To get into the habit of daily writing, I recommend blogging. There’s nothing better than a captive audience, for forcing you to write. Plus, using a blog will drive hoardes of traffic to your website over night, if you use the right technique. Unfortunately, 99% of bloggers are making one critical mistake. Don’t be one of them. Around the Business Blogs

When starting a home based business, there’s so much to do and remember, that it can become overwhelming. Liz at Minding her own Business has written an excellent post on Ten Jump off the Cliff Activities. Her tips will keep business start ups on the right track during the launch, and ensure they don’t miss out the important stuff.

Article writing is a great way to drive traffic to your website. If you submit your articles to article directories, webmasters looking for content may put them on their own site, with a link to your site of course. If readers like your article, they may visit your site. Also, it is a great way of building those all important backlinks. Shane over at Affiliates R Us has put together a great list of Article Directories to submit to - you can find it here.

If you have your own blog, you will know that it’s easy to bang on too much and wind up going off on a tangent. Aaron over at SEO book points out the dangers of rambling too much in your blog.
