An Old Business Puts The Fizz Into Recycling

May 20, 2010

Sodastream, the soft drink machine business have made a comeback. And this time they’re targeting green customers – the folk who are into recycling, not the aliens.

I remember using Sodastream over three decades ago. It was fun to make your own soda at home and save a bit of cash in the process. But Sodastream declined in popularity, as more cheap soda became available on the supermarket shelves and consumers became educated on the health risks associated with fizzy drinks.

Today, Sodastream’s market is people who like soda but don’t want to harm the environment by buying endless plastic bottles of the stuff. And Sodastream’s glass bottles make recycling easy, as you simply reuse them. The business also sells sugar free concentrate, as well as a flavoured water mix.

Trends can kill the popularity of a business, or revive an old business. I’m sure there are many more redundant products or services, which could be revamped to satisfy to todays environmentally conscious consumer. What do you think? Please share your thoughts and opinions in the comments section.
